I began my career working as a Speech-Language Pathologist specialized in adult neurogenic disorders, and found myself entangled in a healthcare system that valued filling beds more than patient care. I loved counseling and guiding my patients, the 1:1 connection I was able to build with them and their families, as well as analyzing complex neurological disorders, but the misguided workings of the medical system were far too draining for my ethical soul. I found myself at a crossroads, unsure of how to translate my unique skills into a career that aligned with my passions and heart.
Not All Those Who Wander Are Lost...
I'm a dreamer who knows that treasures await us in the darkness, that every moment in life holds a gift—even the difficult ones—if we allow ourselves to experience them fully. I’ve always believed that I was meant to do something meaningful with my life, that work can and should be fulfilling, complement our natural talents and passions, and not require us to sacrifice who we really are. These beliefs have led me down quite an unusual path...
After a year of many rejections and struggling to find something that aligned with my values, I was encouraged to create Simply Smita. What began as a passion for writing and community partnerships turned into a growing organic skincare business overnight. I had been making my own products for several years, yet the support and interest in them took me by surprise. And, before I had a moment to fully process it all, I found myself caught on a hamster wheel, making hundreds of products a week, and learning how to run a business that left little space for the things I most loved.
Three very busy years and many accomplishments later (including winning runner up for best beauty product of the year at NY NOW!), I found myself unfulfilled and mentally drained, which forced me to dive deep into some serious self-reflection. When I took the time to pause and face the answers that arose, I knew I had to let my products go. I knew that the business was no longer the answer. So I (eventually) surrendered, trusting that I would be guided to what’s next.
Not long after, things began falling into place. Space opened up for me to write and grow. People reached out to me for guidance and support. Everything came full circle naturally, and I gained the space and freedom to utilize my creative talents in ways that fully align with the life I wish to live, without compromising who I am and what I believe. I know in my heart this is only the beginning. And, I couldn’t be more grateful for it all. ✨
